The telecom industry relies on various plastic compounds such as cables, cable clamps, and splice closures etc., which are frequently exposed to sunlight during their applications. Therefore, it is crucial for these products to be UV-resistant, achieved by adding UV stabilizers to the plastic raw materials. However, this results in an increased cost and requires advanced technology, more than 90% which of Chinese manufacturers are not supplying the products with UV-Resistance.

 

Introduction of UV

UV refers to Ultraviolet radiation, a type of electromagnetic radiation with a shorter wavelength than visible light but longer than X-rays. It is naturally present in sunlight. UV radiation can cause degradation in plastic products by breaking down the chemical bonds in the plastic due to the absorption of energy from the radiation. This can lead to changes in the physical and mechanical properties of the materials, including color fading, surface cracking, and decreased mechanical performance, finally shorten dramatically the product lifetime. As a result, it's very important for plastic products used in outdoor environments to be UV-resistant featured to ensure the durability and reliability could be achieved.

 

International Standards for
UV Resistance

Commonly used compliance standards for 
testing the UV resistance of plastic 
products include UL 1581, ISO 4892, and 
ISO 4582. These guidelines provide testing 
procedures and evaluation criteria to 
assess the UV resistance of plastic 
materials and products to ensure effective 
quality assurance.
